Standards

Editorial standards

The rules every Search Shift Report article follows, from the first check to the last correction.

Sourcing and checking

Every fact in a Search Shift Report article is checked against a source we can name before it goes out. When we can’t verify a claim, we say who made it instead of stating it as fact.

Each report states its method, its sample and the date the data was taken. When we quote someone else’s share or count, we name the source.

Dates and updates

Every article shows the date it was published. When an article changes after that, it also shows the date of the last change, and the feed and sitemap carry the same date.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix the article itself and add a note saying what changed.

Send corrections to hello@searchshiftreport.com with the page and what is wrong. A person reads every message, and we answer within two working days.

Bylines

Articles are signed by Search Shift Report staff, not by an individual writer. The desk stands behind every article, and every question about one goes to the same address.

Ownership and disclosure

Search Shift Report is published by Good Standing Media, which also holds stakes in some software companies in the fields its sites cover.

When an article discusses one of those companies, a one-line note at the top says so. Our publishing software adds that note, so a writer can’t leave it out.

How much we publish

About two articles a day is the most we publish on Search Shift Report. Keeping the number low leaves time to check each piece.
