Auto-reply to Facebook Page comments and Messenger DMs with BetterSocials, Meta Business Suite or ManyChat, and know the 5 limits Meta sets in 2026.

To answer Facebook Page comments and Messenger DMs automatically, connect the Page to a tool that works through Meta's official API, then set keywords and reply rules. For local businesses and creators who want both answered in their own voice, BetterSocials is our pick, from $29 a month for four accounts. Meta Business Suite sends free keyword templates, and ManyChat builds flows.
Every tool on Meta's official API works inside the same rules. The tightest is the private reply: one per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment being posted.
Which Facebook replies can run without you
Meta Business Suite, ManyChat and BetterSocials can each answer a Facebook Page on their own, and each one stops at a different point.
When a comment on your post triggers a Messenger message to the person who wrote it, Meta calls that message a private reply. Meta caps how many a comment can get.
Every price in this report is what the vendor's own page listed in October 2026.
| Tool | Comment trigger | DM answers | Plan price |
|---|---|---|---|
| BetterSocials | Keyword, public reply and DM | AI in your voice | Creator, $29 a month |
| Meta Business Suite | Keyword, message template | Template or Meta Business Agent | Free |
| ManyChat | Keyword or flow builder | Flows you build | Pro, $39 a month |
Turning on automatic replies for a Facebook Page
One Inbox holds Facebook Page comments and Messenger DMs in BetterSocials, and the same settings answer both. Its setup guide puts the whole job at about ten minutes.
- Connect the Page from Connected Accounts. You sign in on Facebook's own screen, so your password never touches BetterSocials, and it takes under a minute.
- Open Settings, then AI voice, and pick Draft for me. AI replies has two sections, Comments and DMs, and each one has Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice. On Draft for me, every new comment or DM gets a draft in your voice, and nothing posts until you approve it.
- Write your AI rules. These are plain sentences with your prices, your hours and your booking link, and they apply to every draft and automatic reply.
- Switch to Reply in my voice once the drafts sound right. Everyday comments get an answer under the comment 1 to 5 minutes later, and a DM gets an answer about a minute after it arrives.
Questions wait in Needs reply for your approval unless you turn on Answer questions too, a switch that only turns on once you've written at least one AI rule. When your rules don't cover what someone asked, the comment or DM waits for you in Needs reply.
DMs carry two more limits. The AI answers DMs that arrive after it's turned on, and after five AI replies in one conversation in a day, the rest wait for you. Each AI reply or draft uses 1 AI credit.
Turning a Facebook comment into a Messenger DM
Comment to DM is what BetterSocials calls this, and a keyword is the whole automation. Someone comments a word on your post. Your Page replies to them in public, and the link lands in their DMs.
In BetterSocials, go to Comment to DM and click New keyword link. The form has five fields: the accounts it runs on, the word to watch for, the public reply under the comment, the DM with your link, and a switch that lets the AI write each reply fresh. Capitals don't matter in the keyword. Go live starts it.
On Facebook and Instagram, the person gets both halves: the public reply and the DM. Keywords are unlimited on every plan, and nothing is billed per contact.
Meta Business Suite and ManyChat send comment-to-DM messages too. InstantDM lists Facebook Page post and Reel comment-to-DM on its paid plans, not its Free plan.
Meta's rule caps what any of them can send. A comment gets one private reply, within 7 days of the comment being posted, so the keyword DM has to go out early.
Public comment replies have no time limit.
What Meta Business Suite does for free
Meta Business Suite answers Facebook comments and Messenger at no charge, which makes it the cheapest route here. Its comment-to-message automation sends a message when a comment on your post contains keywords or phrases you set.
The message is a template you write, or Meta Business Agent handles it. Setup is desktop only. Meta's help pages, checked in July 2026, cap each keyword automation at 5 case-sensitive keywords, and a keyword message can wait 15 minutes before sending unless you reply first.
Meta also has a help page on how to Create an automated Messenger greeting for your Facebook Page. The comment side has its own rules. Meta's comment actions page lets you react, reply, send a message, delete, hide or report a Facebook comment from the desktop Inbox.
The same page sets the window: "You can't send a message in response to comments posted more than 7 days ago." It also sets who can answer: "You need community activity permissions for a Facebook Page or Instagram account to be able to review and respond to comments on its posts."
Meta's automations cover Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and comments on Facebook and Instagram posts, and they cost nothing. What BetterSocials Creator's $29 buys is replies drafted in your voice from your own AI rules, with YouTube, TikTok, Threads and LinkedIn Company Page comments in the same Inbox as the Page.
ManyChat's comments trigger and its contact bill
ManyChat sends comment-to-DM messages on a keyword or from its flow builder, and its help center documents the Facebook Comments Trigger. It works on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and TikTok.
ManyChat bills by active contact. Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly. Take a Pro account that reaches 4,000 people in a month: it pays $39 plus 1,500 extra contacts at $0.05 each, so $39 + 1,500 x $0.05 = $114.
Extra contacts cost $0.10 each on Essential and $0.025 on Business. If you need multi-step sequences in a flow builder, or WhatsApp in the same tool, ManyChat is the stronger pick.
BetterSocials prices the same job flat. Contacts are unlimited on every plan, so the Creator price is the same in a busy month or a quiet one.
Five limits that cap automatic Facebook replies
Meta sets each of the five limits below, either for every tool on its API or inside Meta Business Suite. Most of them come from Meta's help pages, checked between July and October 2026.
| Limit | Number | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Private replies per comment | One | Every tool |
| Private reply window | 7 days from the comment | Every tool |
| Keywords per automation | 5, case-sensitive | Meta Business Suite |
| Wait before sending | 15 minutes unless you reply | Meta Business Suite |
| Comment access | Community activity permissions | Meta Business Suite Inbox |
The first two matter most for comment-to-DM. Once a comment is more than 7 days old, no tool on Meta's official API can send its author a private reply, and BetterSocials is held to the same rule.
Public replies sit outside both, so an answer under the comment can still go out after the private window closes.
Where BetterSocials fits
BetterSocials is best for local businesses and creators whose comments and DMs bring in customers, such as med spas, salons, gyms, realtors and restaurants. It's an AI social media manager that posts to every platform from one place and answers comments and DMs from one Inbox, in the owner's voice.
Every new comment and DM gets a tag when it arrives, such as Lead for questions about price, booking or availability. A new lead sends a push notification to the owner's phone, so the salon owner with a client in the chair still sees who asked about booking.
Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates.
Every plan has unlimited contacts, unlimited keyword automations and a 7-day free trial, with a card required. AI credits meter the writing only, and when they run out the AI pauses instead of charging more.
FAQ
Is Facebook comment-to-Messenger automation free?
Yes. Meta Business Suite includes a free comment-to-message automation that sends a template you write when a comment on your post contains keywords you set. Setup is desktop only, each automation takes up to 5 case-sensitive keywords, and a message can wait 15 minutes before sending unless you reply first.
Can AI answer Messenger DMs for my Facebook Page?
Yes. In BetterSocials, AI replies have a DMs section with Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice. On Reply in my voice, a Messenger DM gets an answer about a minute after it arrives. When your AI rules don't cover the question, the DM waits for you in Needs reply.
How long do I have to send a private reply to a Facebook comment?
Seven days. Meta allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment being posted. Meta's help page puts it plainly: "You can't send a message in response to comments posted more than 7 days ago." Public comment replies have no time limit.
Does ManyChat charge per contact on Facebook?
Yes. ManyChat bills by active contact: Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly. A Pro account that reaches 4,000 people in a month pays $39 plus 1,500 extra contacts at $0.05 each, $114 in all. BetterSocials has unlimited contacts on every plan, from $29 a month for four accounts.
Will people know the reply was automated?
Only if you want them to. BetterSocials has a switch in the Account section of Settings that adds an automated-reply disclosure to what your account sends, and it stays off until you turn it on. Keyword DMs send exactly the message you wrote.
How long does setup take?
About ten minutes in BetterSocials, by its setup guide. Connecting the Facebook Page takes under a minute, and you sign in on Facebook's own screen. The first keyword takes two or three minutes, and then you approve a few AI drafts until the voice sounds like you.
